mioTV Go

Engaging audience with a second screen experience

miotv go app
mioTV Go (now known as Singtel TV Go) is a “second screen” companion app that enhances Singtel mioTV viewing experience on the go. Adapted from Aleph's very own product innovation BeyondTV, the app was redesigned to fit Singtel’s requirements, brand and existing TV set-up box theme and limitations.

BeyondTV
In 2011, I led the ideation of BeyondTV and submitted it to MIPTV Content 360, the digital creativity festival showcasing the latest ideas in audience engagement. We came out as a finalist among 18 entries (out of 157 from 29 countries) in the "Rich Media Tablet and Social TV Apps" category.
We were seeking partnership to bring BeyondTV to the next phase of development, collaborated with Singtel and rebranded BeyondTV to mioTV Go.
Problem discovery
With the limitations of Singtel's TV set-up box and its features, below are some of the problems viewers may faced.
  1. Content discovery limitations: Content discovery is complex and personalized recommendations challenging, especially for households with different TV show interests. Limited storage and processing power hinder the collection and analysis of viewing data, which can result in missed opportunities for viewers to engage with new programming.
  2. Tracking: Often viewers have to note down or rely on their memory on when their favourite TV shows are about to start.
  3. Difficult to navigate: It can be challenging for viewers to quickly and easily find content that is buried within menus or categories. Using a remote control can exacerbate this problem, as it can be time-consuming and frustrating to navigate through menus and search for specific programs using a limited set of buttons and functions.
  4. Passive viewing experience: Without interactive features or other means of engagement, viewers may have a passive viewing experience that does not encourage them to actively participate in the content or engage with other viewers. There's a lot of missed opportunities for ads/brands to reach out to their target audience.
How might we enhance the user's viewing experience by providing additional information, interactivity, and personalisation through a second screen app?
Content discovery made easier
Below are some of the key features that was build in the MVP.
01

Personalisation

Smart recommendations based on user's viewing history and preferences, allowing viewers to discover new content and customise their viewing experience. The watchlist will notify viewers of any upcoming releases and content that they subscribed to.
02

Discoverability

The Electronic Program Guide in the app allows viewers to access a comprehensive list of available content without disrupting their TV viewing experience. There's also a universal search and filters for easy exploration of the content library.
03

Accessibility

Once paired up with the set-up box, viewers can easily control their TV experience with the app's remote and touch gesture features without the need for a physical remote.
Design Kit
We created a design kit to accommodate scalability and consistency, so components can work well alongside each other and render well on various device resolutions.
