Enhancing the efficiency of buses route planning
Public transport is crucial for travel in Singapore, with 7 million daily rides and 4 million on buses. Efficient bus networks can save commuter time. As Singapore develops, bus route planning is vital for adapting to new estates, changing preferences, and ridership patterns. However, modifying bus routes requires careful consideration of the impact on commuters who rely on existing routes.

Problem discovery
Bus planners face challenges when assessing proposals for network improvements due to the complexity of modelling and estimating impact. Factors include dealing with large amounts of farecard data, the ripple effect of modifications, calculating multiple metrics, and predicting individual travel preferences.
The process of assessing proposals for network improvements is often done manually, making it a tedious, time-consuming task that requires a high level of attention to detail. This can lead to errors in data entry or analysis, and a slower decision-making process.
How might we automate to improve efficiency, reduce the manual and tedious process of bus planners to predict new commuter travel patterns?
OVERVIEW OF THE REDESIGNED EXPERIENCE
A cloud-based analytical tool for predicting commuter travel patterns
Reroute helps bus planners predict new travel patterns after changing the bus network. It's flexible, can handle multiple changes, and works efficiently with large amounts of data. It's also easy to integrate into existing bus planning workflows.
Prototype
Above is the very first prototype that we presented to the client. However, a lot of the nice-to-have features were stripped off. A significant amount of importance and space was allocated to the map as the main focal point.
Branding
Visuals chosen conveys futuristic vibes and dark color palette to reduce eye strain and provide greater contrast especially for data visualisations and the map view. This makes it easier to highlight important information and enhances the user experience.
Our Impact
User feedback shows that using Reroute can save a bus planner at least 1 working day per simulation run, with even higher efficiency for more complex scenarios.
